Why Metallurgy Matters....
Cables for electric power and AV signal transfer often use ETP Copper, which is a high-purity copper that contains oxygen as an alloying agent. Copper is used for AV, digital and power cables because it offers high electrical conductivity and annealability. Copper has the highest electrical conductivity rating of any non-precious metal. For audiophile applications, oxygen-free copper is recommended.
We often receive inquiries as to whether our copper is OHNO Continuous Cast Copper? What we source is actually superior to OHNO. Normal copper wire has about 1500 grains per foot. (Less grain is better for audio signal transfer.) OHNO has about 70 grains per foot. We source OFHCC Continuous Crystal (Long Grain) Copper from the USA for our products, and this material has 40 grains per foot.
Because of its characteristics (single-crystal, unidirectional, free from impurities, ultra-low resistance/capacitance/inductance, perfect structure, rapid transmissibility), our copper is ideal for making rapid and uncolored signal transmission cables.
Silver (a precious metal) boasts a higher conductivity that copper. The electrical conductivity can be greater than 106% of copper with high-purity material. Silver is available as nickel-silver, sterling-silver, and fine-silver (.999). Most cable manufacturers use sterling or fine silver. Another silver option is HIGH-FINE SILVER (.9999 purity). This is typically only available as a special-order item from sources in the USA and offers even higher conductivity. HIGH-FINE SILVER is used by DH Labs for all of our solid core and silver-plated cables. The surface of these wires is finally polished on an almost-microscopic level to help erase any “signature” or brightness to the material.
